I've just recently started my
racing career at Walthamstow Stadium and I am shocked and
saddened by media reports that "The Stow", as its
affectionately known, is to be acquired by the housebuilder
George Wimpey and transformed into a housing estate.
Every other greyhound who runs alongside me at "The Stow"
feels exactly the same way.
We live for the thrill of a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday
night, the whoosh of the hare running, the clank as the traps
fly open, the roar of the crowd as us dogs scramble for position
as we go into the first bend, the bumping and baulking, the
screams of individual punters cheering us on, the flash of
the bulb as we cross the finishing line and then the comfort
of the kennels at the end of our night's work. |

My owners love the atmosphere
and the buzz, the art deco exterior, the tic tac men, the
bookies screaming out their prices, the great entertainment
and banter, the ripped up lost betting tickets strewn across
the terraces and the scampi and chips.
We don't want to run anywhere else. We don't want "The
Stow" to be sold. Keep greyhound racing alive at Walthamstow
Stadium. My fellow canines have been running here for 70
years, we can't allow that heritage and tradition to just
be bulldozered.
SAVE THE STOW!
Get out of your traps and add your name to the petition

I'll present the petition - in person - to George Wimpey
and members of the Chandler family (the owners of Walthamstow
Stadium) in due course. Watch this space.
Peace. Love. Woof.
